Alicia’s Accents - March 2nd

Friday, February 29th, 2008

March 2nd - The choir’s anthem will be a setting of Psalm 23 with flute and organ accompaniment. The melody is from an American folk hymn written in 1835. The theme of the 23rd Psalm casts God in the role of protector and provider. While few of us understand the life of a shepherd in the ancient Near East, we are able to understand the message of
comfort and assurance conveyed in the psalm. We all want to be loved and cared for by others. Psalm 23 tells us that God really cares which is expressed in the poetic language, speaking of the Shepherd preparing a table before us, anointing our heads with oil, and overflowing our cups. No matter what our lives bring, Psalm 23 tells us that God is
always there. May our worship together guide us to a relevant meaning of the Cross of Christ for our daily lives.

Girl Scouts “Going for Gold”

Friday, February 29th, 2008

Last Sunday during announcements we heard from 3 Senior Girl Scout members of Troop 655: Sierra Caley, Laura Fricke & Taylor Tschudin who announced their Gold Award Projects (equivalent to Eagle Scout Award).  Each project was designed to benefit some

aspect of Bay Shore Church’s ministries.

Sierra’s Project, Homes Without

Boundaries, entails her organizing, recruiting & facilitating this first time Bay Shore Church program, (under her mentor and liaison, church member, George Jones).  Sierra’s desire to involve High School kids in Missions has her venturing to Mexico to build a home for a deserving family, over Spring Break, leaving 3/23, returning 3/28.  Her goal, as Youth Rep for the Missions Commission, is to have this project become an annual part of

the ongoing ministries of Bay Shore.

Laura‘s Project, “Book It” to Bay Shore, is

Phase II of the Odette Gulley Library project, first completed by sister Girl Scout, Lauren Caley, who hand-built the bookshelves for her Gold Award.  Laura’s love of reading and desire to give something back to the church that housed the memories of scout meetings, brought her to this project.  To date, she has sorted, categorized, purged and input 800 plus titles into a library data base program for the church, and is soliciting new titles to be added

from various sources.

Taylor’s Project, Plant Love; Grow Peace,

grew out of Taylor’s passion and nostalgic memories of her church camp experiences with Bay Shore at Pilgrim Pines.  A camper since 3rd grade, and now Counselor in Training, Taylor designed her project to beautify the camp she loves surrounding grounds, by recruiting for, organizing and providing trees for a plant day at the camp,

tentatively scheduled for March 31.

On MARCH 9, the girls will have information

and donation opportunities in the Concert Hall for those church members and guests who may wish to contribute to the support of any of their projects. Ways to donate include: check payable to Bay Shore church, (memo) Project Name. Buy SCRIP CARDS to donate to the project. Purchase items (such as tools) for sale at the tables. Any support is truly appreciated. Thank You.

BLOOD DRIVE A SUCCESS

Friday, February 29th, 2008

The rain and cold failed to dampen the spirits of over 50 donors who flocked to the Youth Center for Bay Shore’s annual blood drive. We contributed 40 useable units to the severely short supply of blood in our community. As is the case each year, the Red Cross staff advised that these units will all be used by the time you read this note. Our friends from St. Bart’s and our neighbors who saw the signs helped meet the challenge. For all of you who “took the leap”, Parish Outreach Commission would like to pass along a big THANK YOU!                 –Carolyn Remley
