Alicia’s Accents - March 2nd

March 2nd - The choir’s anthem will be a setting of Psalm 23 with flute and organ accompaniment. The melody is from an American folk hymn written in 1835. The theme of the 23rd Psalm casts God in the role of protector and provider. While few of us understand the life of a shepherd in the ancient Near East, we are able to understand the message of
comfort and assurance conveyed in the psalm. We all want to be loved and cared for by others. Psalm 23 tells us that God really cares which is expressed in the poetic language, speaking of the Shepherd preparing a table before us, anointing our heads with oil, and overflowing our cups. No matter what our lives bring, Psalm 23 tells us that God is
always there. May our worship together guide us to a relevant meaning of the Cross of Christ for our daily lives.
