Tour de Cure Update

Thursday, April 17th, 2008

I am so glad that April is here.  As many of you know, my mother died the day after her 98th birthday early in March.  Some of you know that Lin’s mother, Carmen, suffered a severe stroke less than two week later.  Sending and receiving the emails regarding sponsorships for the Tour de Cure went a long way toward keeping me sane. Thanks go out to the thirty-one who have already responded.  My goal is to get at least seventy-five sponsors, so I am close to halfway there.  The team is almost three-quarters of the way towards the original goal of &4,000.  I am sure that we will increase that goal before the June event.
We can still use additional team members.  One person joined our team last week only because she liked the name of our team.  We are looking forward to meeting her.  We would like to welcome you to our team too.  Even if you do not do the ride, you can join as a “ghost” rider.

Children’s Church–Sunday, April 6
The high school kids in Lynda Muenzer’s class have put together a children’s church celebration for Sunday April 6.  All kids, grades Pre-Kindergarten to Middle School will meet for their own special service after beginning worship in the sanctuary.  High school students will escort little ones to the Louise Henry Youth Chapel for fun, fellowship and kid’s communion.  Looking forward to seeing you all there!  (Sunday school teachers are welcome to attend or to enjoy worship and communion in church.)

On Sunday, April 6 our children will be covering the following from Group Publishing’s Faith Weaver curriculum: Jesus Returns to Heaven (Matthew 28:16-20; Acts 1:1-11)

Bible Point: God wants us to tell the world about Jesus.

Weaving Faith Into Life: Students will share Christ with people who don’t know.

Key Verse: “Therefore go and make
disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (Mathew 28:19-20)

“Faith in the Marketplace”,
the working women’s conference, Friday (evening) May 2, and Saturday May 3.  Conference tickets are $45 or $40 if we can get a group of ten to buy a table just for Bay Shore.  See Traci Reitz or Laura T.  and pick up a flyer in the Concert Hall after service.

COA Thank You

Thursday, April 3rd, 2008

On behalf of our Board of Directors, our staff, volunteers and most importantly the clients we serve, thank you for supporting our 4th Annual Golf Tournament , Driving to Alleviate Hunger,  Monday, May 19th.  We appreciate your generous donation of $100 for a Tee Sign Sponsorship.  You are always so supportive of the work here at COA…and all of us are so very grateful.

All donations received as a result of the Golf Tournament will help support COA’s two transitional housing programs, one for recovering women and their children and the other for single men.  In addition, we serve over 80,000 meals annually and provide clothing and household goods for homeless and low-income people in greater Long Beach.  This year we will celebrate 27 years of serving the less fortunate.
We thank you again for helping COA serve those in the community who are in such desperate need.
With Gratitude,
Dixie Dohrmann
Executive Director
