Thank You from “Girlfriends”

Wednesday, July 23rd, 2008

June 23-July 3 and July 14-25, Kristi Heicke rented our Youth Center for her “Girlfriends” program.  She writes:

Charlie and Bay Shore Church,

I wanted to thank you so much for letting Girlfriends use your Youth Center for our first Girlfriends camp.  It was a success because of the facility and the location.  I can’t thank you enough and I look forward to next year!

Thank you for your support in helping these young girls learn new ways in which they can benefit themselves in developing their future.

Again – Thank you

Kristi Heicke and all of the girls!

The Missions Commission is calling it “Christmas in Summer.”  Our church supports many needy families at Christmas, but their basic needs exist throughout the year.  Please help us by bringing personal care products for St. Mary’s C.AR.E. Pantry Product Drive before August 17.

Small brown bags will be handed out after church with a suggested list of items such as shampoo, deodorant, toothbrushes, toothpaste, disposable razors, sunscreen, etc… Thank You!!

New Ralphs Rewards Card

Wednesday, July 23rd, 2008

As most of you probably know, Ralphs recently launched its new ‘Ralphs Rewards’ program.  All customers will complete a new application and receive a new card the next time they go shopping at Ralphs.

HOW DOES THIS AFFECT RALPHS COMMUNITY REWARDS?

As long as you LINK your previously enrolled Ralphs Club Card with your new Ralphs Rewards Card, Ralphs’ participation with Bay Shore Church will continue without change.   As a confirmation point, everyone will still see the Bay Shore contribution note at the bottom of their receipt.  (It may take up to a month for the link to take effect.)  If you did not link their two cards together when they received their new Rewards Card, you must go online at www.ralphs.com to enroll their new Ralphs Rewards Card with the church.

Alicia’s Accents – July 27th

- Be Thou My Vision
(Chalice Hymnal No. 595) is a haunting melody to some, an enchanting tune to others, and disconcerting harmonies to others.  But this eighth century poem has a rich history.  It is reported that St. Patrick, born A.D. 373,  (the only missionary honored with a global holiday and the color green) was taken as a slave from his torched home at the age of 16.  He was taken from River Clyde (now called Scotland) to Ireland, and gave his life to God.  He wrote: “The Lord opened my mind to an awareness of my unbelief in order that I might remember my transgressions and turn with all my heart to the Lord my God”.  Patrick ultimately escaped, returned home, and then after a vision returned to Ireland as an evangelist.  He became one of the most fruitful preachers of the time, starting about 200 churches and baptizing 100,000 converts.  As a result of his ministry the Irish church flourished and in the eighth century, an unknown poet wrote a prayer asking God to be his Vision, his Wisdom, and his Best Thought by day or night.  An arrangement of this hymn will be played for the offertory.

May we find vision and direction from our worship together.
