SUMMER SUNDAY SCHOOL
Kids aged from preschool to fifth grade: Sit with mom and dad until after children’s time; then we’ll walk to the Youth Center together. Middle and High School students, it’s your choice stay in church or help out with the little kids.

Jerusalem Marketplace Begins!

We kicked off this year’s Vacation Bible School with a blast on the shofar (ram’s horn) by Mar Bet (Mr. B).  At the time of writing this, our first day is complete.  Today’s Bible point reminded us that JESUS IS KING!  From 9 a.m. to noon, August 11-15, we will continue to dance, sing, play, and do crafts in the marketplace, and visit Rabbi Anthony in the synagogue school.  47 kids are making joyful noises in the Youth Center, and we are all feeling so blessed.  In addition, approximately 30 middle school, high school, and adult volunteers (some true VBS veterans – former attendees, now grown!) are beading, weaving, hammering, baking, serving, making pottery, and shepherding the children from station to station.  All doing their individual parts; contributing to making the magic happen for the kids.

SOCCER BALL DONATIONS CONTINUE…

IT IS NOT TOO LATE TO HELP!  Each ball costs $8.99.  If you wish to participate in our VBS Soccer Ball Drive for children in Africa, a donation of $10 will purchase the ball, and assist with some postage to get the balls to the distribution center.  Just look for the collection bucket at our display in the Concert Hall.

Special thanks to the folks who donated to support our SOCCER BALL DRIVE.  Your dollars make a difference.

OPERATION KID TO KID MISSION PROJECT: VBS 2008 –
This year’s Operation Kid-to-Kid mission program lets kids send soccer balls to children who are so deep in poverty they can’t afford a soccer ball of their own. VBS KIDS will touch, and personalize GO Balls that will then be delivered to needy children.
It’s hands-on missions…and it changes kids: those who receive the balls, and the kids who send them. Plus, children who receive the balls will also receive a guide called “Coaching for Sport… Coaching for Life” in their native language.
Why Soccer Balls? International Bible Society knows how important it is to reach children, and Operation Kid-to-Kid is designed to reach children on both ends of the GO BALL with the Gospel, the children who receive the ball and your children.

OPERATION KID TO KID MISSION PROJECT: VBS 2008
Kids Come for the Game…and Leave With the Truth. This year’s Operation Kid-to-Kid program lets your kids send soccer balls to children who are so deep in poverty they can’t afford a soccer ball of their own. These soccer balls are called “GO Balls” (Gospel Outreach ball) because they have special colors that are related to sharing the Gospel. The unusual colors prompt children in Africa to ask what the decorations mean great introduction to sharing the Gospel! Your kids will touch, and personalize GO Balls that will then be delivered to needy children. It’s hands-on missions…and it changes kids: those who receive the balls, and the kids who send them. Plus, children who receive the balls will also receive a guide called “Coaching for Sport… Coaching for Life” translated into their native language. Why Soccer Balls? International Bible Society knows how important it is to reach children, and Operation Kid-to-Kid is designed to reach children on both ends of the GO Ball with the Gospel – the children who receive the ball, and your children. In Africa, sports and games outreach programs draw children by the thousands, children who come to play and then stay to hear about Jesus. Everyone can help. Each ball costs $8.99. If you wish to participate in our VBS Soccer Ball Drive, A donation of $10 would purchase the ball, and assist with some postage to get the balls to the distribution center. Or just toss your loose change into the collection bucket and we’ll put it toward a group purchase. Look for our display in the Concert Hall.

Nick Tisa-Leonard Takes Invention to Paris

Wednesday, July 9th, 2008

Bay Shore Church member Nicolas Tisa-Leonard, a senior at CSULB, traveled to Paris on July 3 as part of a four-student team to compete in the finals of the Microsoft Imagine Cup.  The Imagine Cup is an international competition designed to encourage university students to find creative solutions to the World’s problems.  The theme for this year’s competition was “technology for a sustainable environ-ment.”  Nick’s team from the Department of Computer Engineering and Computer Science at CSULB competed in the Embedded Hardware category of the competition.  They designed a device to help households conserve energy by measuring and balancing power usage.  The team’s creative design and practical concept earned them a spot among the top 15 finalists as the only team representing North America!  A July 2 Press-Telegram article is on the kiosk.
