School Supplies Drive for Lincoln Elementary Backpacks

Wednesday, August 27th, 2008

It’s not too late to go out and buy school supplies to fill the backpacks for fifth graders at Lincoln Elementary. Supplies include paper, pencils, pens, folders, crayons or markers or colored pencils, and glue or glue sticks. Anything you think a fifth grader would need to start the school year. We’ll deliver these backpacks at the start of the school year, right after Labor Day. Thanks once again for your continued support for this mission project. Any questions feel free to ask me at church or e-mail me.

Amy Williams.

The Missions Commission is calling it “Christmas in Summer.”  Our church supports many needy families at Christmas, but their basic needs exist throughout the year.  Please help us by bringing personal care products for St. Mary’s C.AR.E. This Week at Bay Shore Church

Wednesday, July 16th, 2008

This is Bay Shore Week at Pilgrim Pines Camp
This year, we have campers and counselors in-training from Bay Shore attending all six weeks of summer camp at Pilgrim Pines.  But the most campers from Bay Shore are there July 13-19, in what is now week 3.  Charlie Ensley has been at camp this week as a cabin counselor for minis, 1st-3rd graders.  Campers are to be picked up at 10 a.m. this Saturday, July 19.  Don’t forget your driver’s license.  To protect the release of campers to author-ized persons, the camp requires this.

Food Finders Founder Speaks This Sunday
Arlene Mercer, founder of Food Finders, and treasurer of the Long Beach Area Coalition for the Homeless, will bring the mission message this Sunday.  Food Finders distributes food from grocery stores, hotels, restaurants and caterers to local charitable agencies.  Our church regularly donates $500 to Food Finders, and last December donated $1,100 to the Coalition for the Homeless for their rainy day shelter at First Congregational Church.  Arlene and Charlie Ensley used to be on the staff of a New York church together.

Thanks from the Watts
Al and Esther Watts celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on June 29 at Sunrise in Seal Beach.  Many church members attended the reception.

They sent this note last week:

Dear Charlie and our dear church members,

Sixty years ago Albern and I chose Bay Shore to be our church and the members of Bay Shore to be our people.

It has been our pleasure and joy to make such dear friends while teaching, working, sharing, learning and loving.

Thank you for sharing our day of celebrating seventy years of marriage with our family and friends.
And best of all, we are not finished yet!

Affectionately,
Esther and Al
